Clearing snow with a Smart car – while this may sound unusual, it has been the norm for many municipalities, winter service providers and private individuals for years: Rontex specialises in the development and production of innovative vehicle add-on modules for winter road maintenance and has been fitting them to small Smart cars since 2011. The result is small, agile and fast winter service vehicles that have many technical advantages. Our products are low cost and easy to operate, and because the system can be rapidly disassembled, they are dual-use. And we use the most sustainable and durable materials currently available on the market.
Our unique technology, once specifically developed for the Smart car, is now available for a wide range of other vehicles that feature manoeuvrability and flexibility. "I run two service stations in Munich that are quite far apart from each other. In 2012, I was looking for winter road maintenance vehicles for my properties. Two tractors would have been an option. But I wasn't that happy with the idea: in the summer I can't use the tractors for anything else and they take up space. A lot of online research brought me to Ronny Friedrich, who wanted to sell his first prototype. I got in touch with him and took a close look at "Smart & winter road maintenance". In 2013, after having watched videos and talked to Ronny Friedrich on the phone, I purchased the second prototype from him. The combination of car and winter road maintenance attachments was ideal for me. I myself live outside of Munich. And what could be better than having the car at home and in the morning driving to the first service station and then to the second at the normal speed of a normal car and clear the surfaces there of ice and snow. And when there is no ice and snow I can use the Smart like a normal car. It served me well all these years, I never had any problems and only once did the Smart reach its limits in the often very snowy winters in Munich.
And by the way, I bought the Smart in 2013 and I used it intensely over many winters doing its job as a road maintenance vehicle in the winter and as a car in the summer. I am a huge fan of the Smart with the Rontex Ecoplow. And in 2018 I bought a newer generation Ecoplow of course."
